IrisVR Takes Home Technological Innovation of the Year at the 2019 New York City Construction Awards

Posted by Daniel Evans on Mar 20, 2019

One of our primary goals at IrisVR is to supply the construction industry with powerful and easy to use virtual reality tools.

That’s why we’re so excited to announce that we won Technological Innovation of the Year at the 2019 New York City Construction Awards on March 12th.

Much of the work we’ve done over the past year or so - from formally releasing VR Meetings last February to adding full Navisworks BIM data support with our latest update - has been aimed at improving design review and collaboration workflows.

We’re proud to see that work recognized by a panel of New York’s construction industry leaders - including representatives from HOK, AECOM, and Stantec.

Improving Model Coordination & Collaboration in the Construction Industry

Over the past year, we developed a number of industry-first VR features to improve communication and collaboration in the construction industry.

Bringing Navisworks into VR

We released our first ever Navisworks in VR plugin last year.

With this plug-in, VDC and BIM teams are supplementing their workflows with true-to-scale visual clash detection, real-time collaborative design reviews, and immersive model coordination.

After introducing our new Navisworks plugin, we kept improving the Navisworks VR experience - striving to make VR model review and project planning as intuitive and productive as possible.

How?

We reduced 3D to VR conversion times to keep model reviews fast and efficient.

In addition, to ensure that you can bring all of your projects into VR, we optimized Prospect to comfortably process your largest, most geometrically dense Navisworks models.

And last but not least, we continued to develop new Navisworks VR features with VDC/BIM workflows in mind. Keep reading to find out how.

BIM Workflows First

With Prospect 2.5, we made Navisworks for VR even better by rolling out full BIM data support. For the first time, construction professionals don't need to reference a Navisworks source file to bring important BIM info into an immersive design review session.

Materials, manufacturer data, budget, construction phasing information, and all the other metadata you need is now right there in VR.

This update supplements a workflow we first introduced in November, when we added BIM metadata support for Revit files.

Multiuser Pre-construction VR Meetings

Our commitment to facilitating collaboration in the construction industry didn’t stop there. We were also the first to unveil Multiuser VR Meetings for AEC in 2017, and we officially added this feature to Prospect in 2018.

Our VR Meetings, which allow up to 12 stakeholders to review a model together - are the most secure and reliable in the world. In 2018, we even hosted one from a plane mid-flight!

In addition, Reports - which we also added to the equation this fall - allow you to automatically create PDFs with issues, clashes and more after each VR Meeting. This way, actionable next steps are always within reach.

Innovating in 2019 and beyond

At IrisVR, we imagine a future where construction firms are consistently working in a collaborative mode, improving the quality of 3D models and minimizing the potential for errors on-site.

Here’s to continuing to innovate in 2019 and beyond! 🎉
